Learning Event 10

I got to observe many different walks this semester. It’s great to know that we all ended up in the same place, no matter how long the journey took. I got to follow the walks of Summer, Josh, and Tyler. These three individuals have unique stories they composed through experiences over the years. One thing I thought about while walking with these people is that everyone has a story. No matter how big or how small, everyone has come from something. Sometimes we get into this mindset that everything in life just happens to us. We think there could be no one else in the world that experiences this. However, the truth is, everyone has triumphs and struggles. There really isn’t someone at the peak of the mountain without someone being in the valley. I think the greatest strength of technology is also its greatest weakness. The best and worst thing about technology is that its fake. In the language of Matthew McConaughey, its flugazi, its pixie dust, it doesn’t exist. The fact that we have an internet that allows us to discover and even re-invent ourselves is truly phenomenal. However, even though this power exists, it does not take away who you are as a person and where you come from. Actually, no person or thing can take those qualities away from you. This brings me to the conclusion of the #Walkmyworld project. When you all graduate and leave to pursue bighiking-path-wayger and brighter things, remember where you come from. Remember that you come from a state with the worst education statistics in America. Remember that you come from a college with the  most progressive ideas in the state. Finally, remember that we are all walking on the same path together. One way or another we are all going to end up in the same place. You can re-invent yourself, move across the world, or get lost in the depths of life, but don’t ever forget where you started walking from.
